Of all the arenas of meaningful political speech, blogs are the most prevalent and democratic. Anyone can start a blog. However, it is a challenge for most people to keep at a blog. Writing consistently requires dedication. So, when someone keeps writing about a subject, we know it's important to them.

The graph you see below is a measurement of this activity, but not in general. The data behind this chart comes from Technorati, which scans most of the blogs that are online - a collection that is popularly referred to as the "blogosphere". The number of articles that are written with the phrase "impeach Bush" should be a rough indication of the degree to which impeaching the President is on the minds of the American people.

Political writing waxes and wanes with the rhythm of each week and each season, as people seek refuge from seriousness and return from their rest to what matters. The trends we seek in this graph are thus over the long term, beyond such predictable fluctuations.
